Titled " October Afternoon". Signed "E. W. Yung 2001". Approx. 18" x 24". Edward Vance Yung was born and educated in Oregon, a descendant of wagon train settlers and homesteaders. He was a laborer, a Navy Corpsman, physician in general medicine, surgery & public health. Also, he was a singer, sailor, a craftsman in wood, glass & metal, and he has been attracted to drawing and painting since his youth. He retired 20 years ago & turned to art and serigraph printmaking, using graphite, ink or watercolor sketches as preliminary studies for his serigraphs. Watercolor became his primary interest. He is specially studied composition and pigment chemistry. Vance paints and draws in plain air (outdoors and on location)and finds it makes possible the capture of natural light effects and moods that a camera seldom sees. A plain air painting must be nearly completed within a couple hours to capture the light before it changes. Then his painting is framed and studied and any final brush work is done. The auctioneer shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness of, estimated selling price of, or defect in any lot, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance will be made or sale set aside on account of any incorrectness, error in cataloging, or any imperfection not noted. No deduction will be allowed on damaged articles as all goods being exposed for public exhibition are sold “as is” and without recourse. All measurements and sizes - are approximate.
